Our kickboxing and self defence classes are designed for age’s 14 years and above. Our classes are very intense at times and perfect for those wishing to lose weight, tone muscle and to feel confident in themselves.
In this day and age it is important to be able to have some form of self protection as our streets are becoming more violent, and so we must be confident enough to walk down the street or go out at weekends and know that if anyone attacks us, we know how to deal with the situation at hand.
The Kickboxing classes at Garry Shaw Martial Arts are different from any other kickboxing clubs as we cover a wide variety of topics including;
- Striking pads and kick shields using hands and feet
- Self defence using makeshift rubber knifes
- Arm locks, wrist locks and takedowns
- Self protection by means of Striking vulnerable areas of the body
- Cardiovascular workouts
- Sparring (optional)
- Kettle bell workouts
- Blocking and counter attacking
- Plus much more.
We do a lot of stretching and flexibility exercises to build up the strength in our legs as these are the strongest part of our body and are excellent weapons for us to use.
There is an option to go for gradings if you wish and to work your way up the coloured belts to reach that coveted Black belt. The following is just a guide as to how long it takes between each grading for coloured belts.
For those that wish to compete in tournaments there are plenty of competitions to enter and are usually held locally.
